Thrifting is all about finding those vintage or vintage-inspired pieces and pulling them together for a look that's classic and modern with a little wink to the past. For tips on how to score amazing pieces every time, I've put together a mini shopping guide of my own. Click through for the four tips you need to shop vintage right.

Tip 1: Ditch the shopping list
One thing about vintage is that you never know what you might find. This means that you might discover the perfect winter coat in the sweltering summer heat, or the most amazing vintage swimsuit in the dead of winter. But trust me, going in with an open mind is a surefire way to make some delightful discoveries.

Tip 3: Don't expect perfection
In the same way that it can be hard to find the perfect fit, it's good to remember that vintage clothes have been previously loved, and as such, they'll come with their own little imperfections.

With that said, there are certain warning signs you might want to heed: Some vintage garments come with a very nasty mothball musk that can be nearly impossible to remove. If you get a gnarly whiff of that telltale scent, you might consider leaving it on the rack, or else get ready to leave it soaking in a vat of baking soda for a few days!

Tip 4: Be adventurous
One thing I love about vintage shopping is that it's always less expensive than what you'll find in the department stores. So have a little fun and try a style you might never have considered before. Perhaps you've always secretly desired a psychedelic jumpsuit, or a crazy mink stole. Vintage is definitely one way to make a statement without breaking the bank. Just remember it's always good to balance it out with some modern basics so you don't end up looking like you're wearing a costume.
